“Me and U-First! …. Understand me, a Person with dementia.” e-Learning Series

Modules Launched on line December, 2006
French version launched in 2009

Me & U-First! is now available on-line in both French and English at www.u-first.ca. The OCSA, Ontario Community Support Association, is the host of the Me & U-First e-learning program.
This e-learning program is available at no charge, however participants will have to register. Upon completion of the 8 module program, a certificate will be available.
If you prefer to have the program on CD, you can order it from the OCSA web site for $25.

E-Modules

1 – Overview
An introduction to U-First! language and approach and the modules.
2 – Understanding Physical
Builds an understanding of normal aging and the physical problems that can affect a person with dementia
3 – Understanding Intellectual Explains the damage to the brain and the losses of dementia; and how this will influence the interaction of partners in care and the person with dementia.
4 – Understanding Emotional Focuses on the emotional factors that influence the functioning and behaviour of a person with dementia.
5 – Understanding Capabilities Focuses on identifying and supporting the remaining strengths of a person with dementia in order to meet demands of daily life.
6 – Understanding Environment Explains how changes in the environment can positively impact persons with dementia, allowing them to function at their best.
7 – Social Focuses on understanding the many social factors that can influence the functioning and behaviour of a person with dementia
8 – Support and Team Describes how the Partners in Care support each other by sharing observations.
